Treating Social Anxiety Disorder

This fear can sometimes come without reasons and a person with social anxiety disorder will internalize everything. Any small comment, glance or flippant remark will be taken personally as justification for their feelings about people.
Socially anxious people convince themselves of false negative beliefs and can feel embarrased in public situations. They go through life afraid of what might happen without any evidence it’s even going to happen. This can completely take over a person’s life and can affect daily life and normal functions as you know them.
However, social anxiety disorder does not have to rule your life. This is a condition that can be treated and it all begins with the right knowledge of the condition and the willingness to receive help. It can be very useful to speak with your doctor and get into a counseling program to help you understand why you are having these feelings and what you can do about it.
In times of panic and anxiety, what are you thinking? So how do you feel with this when you are placed in social situations? Take time to think about what you might be thinking in the back of your mind. They’re all staring at me. No one cares what I have to say. No one understands me. Maybe you think you’re not good enough to do this. These are samples of what a person might feel like in a socal situation with social anxiety disorder.
All you need is to realize that these thoughts are not true and then learn to change and control those thoughts. It can be hard to shake away feelings that creep up on you and negative thoughts.
One way you can treat social anxiety disorder without medications is through therapy and a variety of techniques that can help you see the truth. This could mean seeking proof of your negative feelings by using a series of experiments. Try raising your hand in class or speaking up at an office meeting. What happens? What reactions do other people have?
Often people will discover that their fears over what might happen are much stronger and more severe than what actually does happen. Realizing this truth will help the socially anxious person open up.
