Talking to Your Doctor About Your Alcohol Problems and Your Depression

Larry at long last made up his mind to go and see his physician about his abusive drinking. At first, Larry thought he would be able to essentially go on the Internet, look for some essential alcohol info, and come to a decision whether or not he was an alcoholic. Not unexpectedly, he discovered several websites that specified some of the usual alcoholism symptoms. That’s the good news. The less positive news, unfortunately, was that Larry showed evidence of a number of these alcoholism symptoms.

Symptoms of Alcohol Addiction: Some Illustrations

As an illustration, Larry was drinking quite a bit more than normal and he was beginning to have more angry arguments with the young lady he was dating. What is more, for the first time in his life he was suffering through sleeping problems. He then stated all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he undeniably thought he manifested.

The doctor notified Larry that it was wise of him to tackle his drinking problems, he gave Larry an exhaustive physical exam, and recommended that he go into an out-patient alcohol treatment center that was supervised by one of his doctor partners.

In addition, when Larry mentioned that he had been feeling depressed more regularly, the doctor notified Larry that alcoholism and depression often come about in the same person. For that reason, the doctor also recommended that Larry seek counseling to focus on his melancholy.

The Advantage of Coping With Your Drinking Issues

The physician made it a point to inform Larry that he might not necessarily be addicted to alcohol, but that he was undeniably drinking in an abusive manner. The healthcare practitioner then informed Larry that the reason he suggested alcohol treatment in the first place was because he wanted him to deal with his drinking difficulties, make sure that he prevented them from proliferating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to absolutely stop drinking.

In brief, by successfully treating his problem drinking, Larry would be able to get his drinking difficulties under control and abstain from the negative cycle that could most likely lead to alcohol addiction.

Undeniably, Larry did not want to face the thought of getting registered into an alcohol treatment program. Nor was he thrilled about going to a therapist about his depression. Irrespective of these fears, on the other hand, Larry in point of fact felt some emotional relief for the first time in many months because he eventually gave up making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind to do something constructive about his drinking behavior.
