Symptoms Attention Deficit Disorder
ADD and ADHD in kids are frequently in the news Schools and doctors have differing opinions on how to handle and treat these conditions. Attention Deficit disorder is also common in adults, though few people realize this fact.
Symptoms of ADD and ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) can be classified in one of 3 ways:

• Difficulty paying attention. ADD/ADHD sufferers have more hassle paying attention than others
• Hyperactive behavior. People with ADD/ADHD struggle with sitting still
• Impulsivity. ADD/ADHD sufferers cannot control impulses to speak or move
ADD/ADHD patients don’t have to show all three sorts of symptoms in order to be diagnosed A person can have ADD/ADHD and yet have symptoms in one, 2, or all 3 groups
Common symptoms of ADD/ADHD include:
• Trouble remaining seated, constant fidgeting.
• Being impatient
• Trouble following instructions
• Interrupting a question to answer
• Frequent talking and interrupting
• Trouble listening
• Trouble finishing tasks
• Typically forgets.
• Losing things

ADD/ADHD is not a snap diagnosis Diagnosis can take a while whether it is a kid or an adult having symptoms Doctors use four separate criteria to diagnose ADD/ADHD Four criteria that has got to be present are:
• Partial symptoms before age seven
• Symptoms must be evident in at least two separate settings, for instance home, work, or school
• Symptoms must interfere with traditional life
• No other condition or explanation of symptoms can be found
ADD/ADHD should not be self-diagnosed People coping with ADD/ADHD should see a physician or mental health professional to rule out other causes
ADD/ADHD is usually misdiagnosed when the real problem is situational or behavioral Situational and behavioral issues cannot be solved with ADD/ADHD medications and treatments.
Behavioral problems should be treated with behavioral strategies ADD-like symptoms are very often caused by situational factors. Many factors can cause symptoms that mimic ADD, for example, a boring class or bad job Jumping to an ADD/ADHD diagnosis too soon can result in unnecessary medication and ineffective treatment
Researchers suspect that ADD/ADHD could have a physiological origin Depressive disorders and anxiety disorders do typically overlap with ADD/ADHD. Successful treatment can only happen when the diagnosis is accurate. Effective treatment of underlying depression and anxiety must go hand in hand with ADD/ADHD treatment if both are present
Anxiety and depression can’t be effectively treated unless any ADD/ADHD is treated too Full recovery depends on diagnosing and treating both conditions
