Panic Attacks – Can You Cure Them Without Drugs?
Panic attacks, which incidentally are much the same as anxiety attack, will come quickly, and with a vengeance. They will strike you totally out of the blue. If you are a sufferer I’m sure you would give anything to stop them dead. Your wish could be granted.
First & Worst Attack
My wife was hit with a very severe panic attack while she was driving the car. This could have been a disaster if she had crashed, or crashed into someone. As soon as we knew we were safe and the initial shock had died down, shock for us both I might add. We made an appointment to see our doctor.
After the lecture that it’s all in her head we eventually got prescribed beta blockers. I say “we” because even though it was my wife having it, I was feeling like part of it all. If that makes any sense. The drugs would slow her heart rate and stop the onset of the attacks, fingers crossed.
We went for a drive and at the exact same location she felt an attack coming. The result was a panic attack but with a calm heart rate. She said this was worse than before. Full blown panic yet her heart never even got into second gear.
Stick The Drugs In The Trash
The drugs went straight in the trash as soon as we got home. Me driving this time. A full 9 months went by and she never drove the car once. She never had a panic attack either, which was a mixed blessing.
We decided we couldn’t carry on like this; her not being able to drive was now causing real problems. I constantly searched the internet for help and advice, and to be honest, hopefully a magic cure. None of them worked properly, at least not for us.
We’ll Try Anything Once
We then happened across yet another “method” to supposedly stop them. We thought we may as well give it a go. We knew any success wasn’t down to drugs as she wasn’t taking them anymore. Fingers crossed it was looking good. The first attempt at driving and she got the overwhelming senses of an attack coming. She put the system into gear and managed to come out unscathed. So far so good.
When we talked after, she said she still had an attack but she managed to keep it at bay. Just knowing she had been able to lower the intensity was a huge boost in itself. She now felt the power within herself to stop the next attack dead. She didn’t quite manage this.
Bit By Bit
Although not stopping it fully, she did low the intensity again. Every time she had an attack she had the ability to lower the force of it. It wasn’t too long (weeks) before she felt confident enough to see an attack coming and to halt it from going any further.
If you feel overwhelmed by these sudden attacks you have the choice to do nothing, or seek medical help in the form of drugs from your doctor. Either way there’s a good chance you won’t get better any time soon.
