Overcoming Pregnancy Panic Attacks

As you are waiting for you new child to come, you should really be quite excited during your pregnancy.  However, a pregnant woman may sometimes experience fear, panic and anxiety.

Anxiety is not rare.  However, most panic episodes are not pregnancy panic attacks.  The feelings can be quite frightening when you’re experiencing them, but they are often groundless.  You don’t need to go through all this suffering.

It is understandable that you might have a few things on your mind when you’re pregnant.  Is the birth going to be as painful as others have told you?  Will you be able to live up to the needs that your child deserves?  Is your child going to be born completely healthy?  These are normal thoughts, but if you worry too much about your new child panic attack symptoms may follow.  Symptoms may consist of feeling dizzy, feeling lightheaded, feeling out of breath, or sensations like you are having a heart attack.  Learning the causes of anxiety attacks will be a big help.

You can start to overcome pregnancy panic attacks by restructuring your life so you have fewer things to worry about.  Find an obstetrician that you can trust and feel confident dealing with.  Take their recommendations on diet and fitness to heart.  Physical activity helps you stay healthy–not just your body, but also your emotions as well.  Try to schedule an ultrasound as early as you can to make sure that your child is healthy and put your mind to rest.  You also might want to think about getting a doula (a woman that is hired to provide advice and emotional support to pregnant women).

It’s also a good idea to participate in a pregnancy online forum.  Here you can share what you’ve been through and hear about what you can expect down the road.

Breath work can help you stay focused and centered during stressful times.  Yoga or meditation groups can be great for cultivating this practice.  You can also use these as great ways to get out of the house and meet some terrific new friends.

You don’t need to put up with pregnancy panic attacks.  The odds are good that everything will go smoothly.  So relax and enjoy this special time in your life.  Oh, and congratulations!
