Obsessive Compulsive Behavior And How It Affects The Individual
Obsessive compulsive behavior interferes with a persons life. It can cause the sufferer a great deal of anxiety. A compulsion will enter the sufferers head and they will have to carry the compulsion out leading to an obsession. Obsessive compulsive behavior makes the individual live their life in a compulsive manner and can cause a great deal of emotional torment.
Obsessions can range from many different things. Usually a compulsion will enter the sufferers head and they will not be able to get rid of it until they carry out the obsession. A person might use the toilet, wash their hands and still think that they are dirty. That makes them carry out the whole process of washing their hands again. Only they feel that they have missed a certain area on their hands and that they are not clean so they wash their hands again. This time they may make it to the door just about to leave the toilets and get the distressing compulsion to wash their hands again because they feel unclean. Sometimes they might get the thought that another person has touched the door handle with dirty hands so they will go back to the wash area and wash their hands again. This is the obsessive cycle of a sufferer with obsessive compulsive behavior.
A person with obsessive compulsive behavior might be obsessed by their personal hygiene levels and be constantly worried that they are not clean. From time to time a person might experience a change in the level of obsessions experienced. This can happen for a number of reasons, many times it is due to the level of stress experienced in a sufferers life.

Many times an individual experiencing the illness has not talked about it to anyone and suffered from it alone for numerous years. The relief of talking to another about the illness can be so great that the sufferers life is improved vastly.
Early sexual abuse or other traumatic disorders are thought to be triggers for obsessive compulsive behavior. Having a particularly distressing childhood can set the illness off early and it can carry through to adulthood if it is not treated. There is treatment for the illness through counsellors, psychologists, hypnotherapists and other specialists. Treatment might involve getting the person to act out the compulsion, thinking of it more and showing the person that no harm can come from carrying out the compulsion.
