How Can You Cure Panic Attacks? Part 1

Can you really cure panic attacks may be a question you’re asking, even if you have found ways of coping with them, and with stress and anxiety. It’s a question that has been up for debate for a very long time, and, depending on who you talk to, and who you choose to believe, there are solutions to panic attacks. One of the reasons why, however, this is such a difficult question to answer is because there are so many underlying causes of panic attacks.

Those most “curable” attacks are going to be the ones that are easily traced to a single trigger or cause. Those attacks that occur without seemingly having a cause (and these probably make up the highest percentage of attacks overall) are, for obvious reasons, going to be more difficult to cure.

Treating panic attacks before you have one is highly desirable, as the last thing you will be able to concentrate on when you feel an attack starting to raise its ugly head, is a new method for curing it. Just the correct combination of approaches is a hard to pin down, but finding that one combination can lead to a permanent cure, and it can take a lot of trial and error and research before the path to your cure becomes clear. Your own personal combination can include methods from each category below, and it will be up to you to experiment in each category until you discover your own magic formula.

Professional Help
If you suffer from panic attacks, but have never been evaluated a psychiatrist, psychologist, or other credentialed medical professional, it is recommended that you at least start there. There are many organic issues, such as tapeworms, that can cause panic attacks, so it is important to find out if something like that is causing yours. This is not something you will be able to figure out on your own; you will need the assistance of a trained professional to do that. In order to start down the road to finding a cure, you must rule out any organic issues.

Panic attacks are a real medical condition, so evaluation by a real medical professional is warranted. Many prescription medications have worrisome side-effects, and even if your doctor recommends them, remember that you are under no obligation to accept them as the only method to resolve the issue, so talk with your doctor about any concerns you have. A good doctor will recommend a variety of treatment options for you, so if yours is telling that you drugs are the only way, be very cautious. There is the other side of this coin, however, and that is that just maybe you will end up on a medication that has few side-effects, and that really works for you, constituting the cure you’ve been seeking.

You’ll Need to Find a Safe Place
People who suffer from Agoraphobia often have panic attacks, and these people know all too well what a “safe place” is. Many Agoraphobics end up always staying in their own home as a result of this, and never go out of their house because it is the only place they feel safe. A safe place does not, however, have to be some place physical, it can be a pace in your mind that you can get to no matter where you are physically at that moment. Try this – think of a place where you have always felt especially protected and safe, maybe a place from your childhood, and try to transport yourself mentally to that place. (Don’t be concerned if the place of which your thinking is being cradled by a parent or grandparent, or sitting on your parent’s knee – you’re the only one who knows where you’re going.) If it is your home that makes you feel comfortable, try imagining yourself there when you start to feel that familiar flutter of your pulse that tells you an attack is coming on. You will be making positive steps in your efforts to control your own panic attacks by combining such mental imagery with meditation and proper breathing.
