Common Causes of Anxiety Attacks
Before we can discuss the causes of anxiety attacks, you need to understand that there are a lot of different things that can happen to people that result in anxiety disorders. One person’s anxiety trigger could be completely different from the next person’s, but there are a few common traits that have been proven to result in anxiety attacks. Experts to pin-pointed a range of things from environmental, physical, psychological, and cultural traits that can influence anxiety conditions.
First, some people just have anxiety and panic programmed into their genetics. You shouldn’t quit on being free from anxiety, but there is evidence that heredity and the environment you were raised in can contribute to anxiety problems. There is a trend for anxiety problems to run in families. In many cases if one identical twin comes down with a panic disorder, the other twin stands a good chance of also getting the same panic disorder. Non-identical twins share a much weaker connection, indicating that genetics does play a role. Some case studies also indicate that anxiety is something that we learn from our parents growing up.
Some times anxiety is the end result of personality. Some personality types just tend to be overly anxious. Individuals that have lower self-esteem tend to suffer from more anxiety attacks than people with normal or high self-esteem. People that have not acquired proper coping skills have a larger rate of anxiety attacks too. Perfectionists also have a good chance of experiencing a panic attack or nervous breakdown when their carefully set plans do not live up to their expectations. These things can all be controlled by taking on some new values.
The causes of anxiety attacks can also be traced to certain events in our lives. Traumatic experiences, such as poverty, violence, and abuse have a relationship to anxiety disorders, especially when they span a large period of time. If you have endured challenging life circumstances you may wish to find counseling or other treatment options to move past these experiences.
Certain medical issues have also been known to be traced to increased amounts of anxiety. If you suffer from high blood pressure, an overactive thyroid gland, or diabetes, you might also have greater than normal anxiety. Sometimes just the intensity of dealing with a serious condition can aggravate your anxiety.
