Calming Anxiety - What Can Really Make a Difference
Anxiety is horrible, and takes the quality of our lives, but take action, take control and you really can defeat it. So what can you do today to ease the feelings:-
a) Make time for yourself, slow down, reduce comittments, you do not have to do it all. Be assertive and say "No" sometimes, your needs and feelings are just as important as others. Feeling overwhelmed causes anxiety, but reducing committments and saying no sometimes will help.
b) Stay clear of stimulants including nicotine, caffeine and alcohol. All of these adversely affect your nervous system, and will aggravate your symptoms. Avoid cannabis and illegal drugs too, as these will only make things feel worse too.
c) Take a closer look at your worries - what can you address, and what must you accept because you cannot change it.
d) Life is too short to worry, and most things never occur anyway so stop struggling. What is the worst that can happen - Know that you can deal with it with help and encoragement, so stop worrying! Worrying changes nothing, and most thing don't happen anyway, so why strain!
e) You need life balance, so set aside 8 hours in bed for rest and sleep, and for other good bedroom pursuits that will also help you relax and enjoy! You also need to set about time for fun relaxation, hobbies, exercise. Walking my dogs, gives me time to unwind and valuable excercise! It helps me unwind and think things through, and a brisk walk is great exercise too which helps me sleep better.
f) Look up local support groups, as it helps enormously to talk to others who understand.
