The improved performance of golf and other sports
In my work with athletes in various sports numerous representations of certain universal principles that apply to all sports. Some of the sports represented were the amateur skaters and national competitor, gymnasts, tennis players, track and field candidates, amateur and professional hockey players, Olympic skiers, riders, golfers, swimmers and divers. The pressure and stress that comes with all competitive sports may result in loss of any technical ability and even longevity of experience that an athlete can possess. The pressure and stress of competition interferes with mental and emotional control needed to compete satisfactorily. It can create an aura that makes the athlete lose track of the game plan "that must be maintained in order to compete … to win.
Problem is not different for each sport competition if an individual sport like tennis or figure skating or team sports like hockey, baseball or football. The processes of these factors interfere with the performance of an athlete is the same across them. If the competitor can not control how they think, feel and act on the field of competition, something has to suffer. Essentially, the need to focus is a universal "given" in all sports. Without discussion, all the technical and practical training for nothing. When I watch sport, I try to watch the eyes of the athlete who can tell me how he / she is to maintain focus in order to perform their roles. There is an element of predictability when and why an athlete loses that sense of control resulting from a forgotten room. Of course, there is no 100% accurate all the time and it is not a gift that I possess. It is the sense of feeling of an athlete's performance, thought processes and ability to focus. Is that likely? I think it is … Yes. There is a feeling that can be seen through the body language of an athlete who tells the story.
A history of hockey
I remember working with the Buffalo hockey team, Sabres. There were players on the eleven who were considered by their coach is to be "offside" or sold if their game has not improved. I met the whole team in the locker room and explained who I was and what I proposed to do. We agreed that I would be able to work with the group of players both as a group and as individuals. It was also agreed that I would be able to watch the team play in the press box.
By working with the players, we went in several different aspects of what I call the mental side of their game. Anxiety and fears about the possibility of being "offside" resulting problems of development, the effects of their situation on their families, doubting their abilities, having lost the joy of having an idea "for the game", thinking that they were too vs their "play instinct" were some issues that were discussed. I have trained to use deep relaxation before each practice and game and some technical for use on the way home after games or practices so that their relationships with their family would not be compromised. I worked with them before any as a group and some players have been seen individually during the period of twelve weeks.
One of the main features characteristic was noted that tend to influence their lack of passion play and have fun for the game they could move into a state of deep relaxation and "relive" their game "Pond Hockey" as children. I wanted to bring all the feelings "good" that the memory of those times held in order for them to relive the same feeling of having fun. My thesis is that "the biggest learning we experience is when we do not know, and we learn when we're having fun ©. Overall, my observations have shown there was a significant improvement in their attitudes, play and overall performance has been driven by their coach.
The story of a horse:
A horse in his mid-twenties approached me after having spent a lot of money on lessons technical training to improve his riding because it has not been well in competitions as she or her coach thinks she should. In talking with her and two personal stories and sport, it became clear that her expectations of herself were the creation of an anxiety significant it was transferred to his horse causing disturbances in the contrary to be a natural flow of traffic to achieving excellence in the ring. This points up the principle that the mental state of an athlete … in this case the level of anxiety … on our body and can even be transferred to others with whom we have contact. In this case, it was a horse, but I found the same thing happening among human beings.
After several sessions with her around her to learn to use relaxation techniques that we designed just for her in ten competitions, she placed first in seven and second in three of them. In addition to the success it has experienced in the exercise of her sport, she began to form to maintain more reasonable expectations of herself live life. She had reached more than she had hoped.
A "manly" GOLF GRIP
A competitive golfer came to me after having spent considerable time taking lessons for a problem she had with his putter in his inability to improve this part of his Thurs The problem was evaluated by his personal trainer as being in its decision resulting in the purchase of new clubs, handles new and changing to the grip. I asked him to shake my hand and the grip was very firm … a bit like a man. I reprimanded and said she should be more "lady-like and sweet. Once his attention was gained, I I told her I wanted her to give me a lesson by putting his home course. She thought it would be strange, but respected because it was curious to know what to expect and, of course, she did not leave me "win". In the lesson, she worked with my position, the head position, "read" the green and, finally, my handshake. I voluntarily entered the putter with a handful of death. "I told him that this way always tended to ensure that I succeed. She asked me to remove it, but I continued to relax a little at a times. She eventually punish me indicating that I was not receptive to a change necessary. Clearly, she was very frustrated me. I said that I was frustrated as well and asked her to show me how. She started her club grip tight, as she usually did, but because she knew I was staring and not be put in a position of losing control, she began to relax so that by the fifth ball his grip, stroke, etc. was very relaxed. She missed three the first five holes but it is worth putting the last two bullets that his influence has naturally become relaxed. She gave a big smile when she finished and said, reluctantly, "OK, I get the message. We have more work in the office on the use of relaxation techniques before putting. Later in the season, she wrote me a note of thanks, saying that she will always remember me and that the techniques I taught her worked unabated.
