Anxiety Self-Help
It is normal for everybody to encounter a certain amount of anxiety in their lives at different times. Unfortunately, approximately nineteen million Americans suffer from more than just mild anxiety that is triggered by stressful events, but live in a state of constant anxiety that prohibits them from participating in regular activities. This article focuses on helping to deal with anxiety for those people who suffer from anxiety on a regular basis.
Self-Starters to Consider
You may discount the idea of aromatherapy or meditation for stress and anxiety relief, but these can be simple and effective ways to bring your stress level down. Meditation has been around for over 4,000 years, which is difficult to argue against, and lavender has been known to impart tranquility for centuries. If your anxiety level rises at work, try keeping a small lavender sachet at your desk and taking a long whiff when you begin to feel your anxiety grow. Choose a form of quick meditation to add to the aromatherapy to develop a quick-fix to quell oncoming anxiety and stress.
You Are What You Eat
Your diet can play a big role in how stressful and anxious you become on a regular basis, so eating right is a key element in living free from constant anxiety. Sugar, caffeine and alcohol have all been scientifically proven to trigger anxiety and panic attacks. While you may be having a glass of wine each evening to de-stress, knowing that it has the opposite affect should compel you to give that up.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, vegetables and fruits (like spinach, asparagus, avocado, beets, carrots and celery) have all been proven to mitigate anxiety. Wheat germ and wholegrain cereals also have a positive effect, as do fish, eggs, molasses and garlic. Many of us will stuff our faces when we feel overly anxious, and the good news is that we can still do that, only with the right foods.
Endorphins Rock!
Endorphins are those chemicals in your body that make you feel good, so it practically goes without saying that increasing them will lower your levels of stress and anxiety. There is no better way to do this than with regular exercise. Getting rid of the anxiety that can be so damaging is just one of the overwhelming benefits of exercise, as it will make you live longer, feel better, and even look better.
Avoidance of Triggers Is Important
Finally, if you know what sorts of things and situations increase your level of anxiety, then you should simply try to avoid them, if it is possible to do so. Naturally, there will be those situations that you cannot avoid, but there are some that you can, so practice a little advance planning to at least try to steer clear of them. Sometimes it might take a little planning to circumvent stressful situations, but doing such planning will ultimately have a positive result for you. Taking care of yourself is really the core basis of anxiety self-help.
